As of June 18, 2019, Canada has launched two new home caregiver pilot programs to assist home assistance caregivers in immigrating to Canada. They are intended to take the position of the LCP (Live-in Caregiver Program), which was closed to new candidates at the same time. But don’t worry, under the new home care provider pilots, you’ll be able to apply for permanent residency provided you have a legitimate employment offer or work experience in Canada as a caregiver and fulfill the qualifying standards.
These are two distinct programs, and applications must be filed under the program to which your offer and talents are most suited
Home Care Providers can apply for two new immigration pilot programs:
- Pilot Program for Home Child Care Providers; and
- The Home Support Worker Pilot Program
Both 5-year pilot programs are designed to assist foreign-qualified and experienced home childcare providers and home support workers in relocating to Canada and obtaining permanent citizenship.
Providers of In-Home Child Care
Home childcare providers assist parents in caring for their children and may be requested to assist with household responsibilities. Caregivers can offer care in their own homes or the homes of their employers, as opposed to the reside-in Caregiver Program, which requires caregivers to reside in their employer’s house.
Home Support Worker Providers
Home support workers provide personal care and companionship to elders, persons with disabilities, and those in rehabilitation during times of recuperation, incapacity, and family disturbance. Preparing meals, feeding, washing, changing dressings, providing prescriptions, and other basic housekeeping activities are among the responsibilities. Care is provided in the homes of their employers or clients, where the home care worker can feel compelled to live. Home care professionals can care for children, but this should not be their primary role.
