Canada is renowned for its excellent standards of education and living, and it is the most popular destination for international students looking to further their education and build their future. Every year, more than 100,000 students travel to Canada to study and explore exciting employment prospects.
The International Student Program has been modified by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Students can now work part-time (up to 20 hours per week) without a work permit under the new laws. It provides students with the opportunity to learn about Canada and its culture. It also enables students to work on or off campus.

The candidate must satisfy the following standards to receive a student visa.
- Accepted into a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada
- Canada's current situation
- Proof of financial assistance for your education and proof of residence in Canada for the duration of your studies
If you are a visitor in Canada and want to apply for a study permit to attend an authorized learning institution, you may be able to do so from within the country. Certain foreign nationals can apply for and acquire a study permit from within Canada as of June 1, 2014. These are some examples:
- Young children enrolled in elementary or secondary school;
- And exchange or visiting students
- Students who have completed a short-term course or program of study required for admission to a particular institution.
After completing the program of study, the student is granted a Graduate Work Permit for a period of one to three years. Following their education, students can seek to become permanent residents of Canada. For further information about becoming a permanent Canadian resident, please see the website’s “Immigration” section.
